Transcript of a wall

The term transcript describes a newly rendered form of something, not just a copy, but one that takes into account the original’s history and combines it with the contemporary present.

Reflecting on her last time in Zeitz in June 2017, the artist created a wall drawing on site. For her previous exhibition, The Collected Moments of Idleness, she went around the abandoned factories in the city taking sound recordings and photographs. What stood out to her was the patterns and shapes within the peeling and decaying wallpaper. The time spent standing still was visibly seen in the cracks and lines created.

Hannah works with long-durational actions and performances, pushing herself to complete a set task. For this project she references the industrial centre that once was Zeitz, working to set hours with a monumental task ahead of her. Working from these photographs, she created a record of another wall, making evident its cracks and decay for the public; a record of a wall affected by the wall.
